(LRC), 2012-09) Bowal, PeterThe article discusses the court case wherein the "Edmonton Journal" challenged the constitutionalism of the Accurate News and Information Act of Alberta's Social Credit Board. The legislation was passed to limit the opposition and criticism brought by a united Alberta media against the economic and social policies of the Social Credit government of William Aberhart. It happened before the arrival of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In 1980, Irwin Toy advertized toys to children under 13 and was charged with 188 violations of the Quebec's Consumer Protection Act. It notes her arrest for being accused as a killer of four babies including Justin Cook and Allana Miller due to the high concentration of digoxin in the babies blood. It highlights her procedural victory due to her courage to fight the system that wronged her and was awarded an honorary doctorate in law from Queen's University, for her work in promoting integrity in nursing.
