    A description of problem gamblers in Alberta, summary of main findings : a secondary analysis of the Gambling and Problem Gambling in Alberta Study

    The primary goal in conducting this additional analysis was to provide AADAC field staff and others involved in providing problem gambling services with useful information for prevention, education and treatment programs for clients and collaterals. As such, Dr. Wynne has considered the implications of these latest findings for programming and further research into problem gambling. This summary will provide an overview of the main findings from each section of Dr. Wynne's first additional analysis report. The reader is directed to the original report (A description of problem gamblers in Alberta: A secondary analysis of the Alberta study data) for further information and detail.

    Problem gambling : Network Project final report, 1995-1996

    The purpose of the project was three fold: 1. To provide insight of the prevalence of adult problem gambling in the general population; and 2. To provide an accurate estimate of adult problem gambling who are in a recovery program from other addictions; 3. Why VLT's were so stimulating to problem gamblers. Social research was conducted by utilizing the SOGS-R, a social research instrument to measure if a person is a problem gambler and if a person is a pathological gambler. The research was directed at the general population and people in a 12 step recovery program. The goal of the project was to help reduce problem gambling in the general population; and to prevent people in recovery or seeking recovery from other addictions to transfer their addictive behavior to gambling which could cause a relapse in their original addiction or suicide.

    School surveys of gambling among adolescents : a resource manual for community agencies

    This resource manual provides a practical guide to lead one through the steps involved in conducting survey research on adolescent gambling in junior high and high schools. The content focuses specifically on how to carry out a well planned and efficiently managed project using questionnaires that will be administered in the classroom. Those individuals who are involved with or affected by the study are referred to as stakeholders. The key stakeholders in the school survey study of adolescent gambling include: the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission ; the community agencies who will conduct the survey study; authorities responsible for school districts; principals; teachers; students to be surveyed, and; parents of the students. This manual will also be helpful for planning what to communicate about your study to administrators who are providing funds for the study and authorities who are giving their consent to carry out the study in the schools. Although survey research can be challenging, reading the manual before you begin your study and using the suggested steps as you proceed with the study will help to make your survey study manageable. Various resources are suggested throughout the manual to help guide you at different stages of the research process. Included in Appendix A are resource books that may be useful for answering your questions about research and about adolescent gambling behavior.

    Senior citizen gambling study for the Whitecourt area of Alberta

    This study was conducted to address the gambling behaviour of seniors aged 55+ residing in the area between Fox Creek and Sangudo. The exploratory Study established relevant baseline statistics for this area on seniors' attitudes, perceptions and behavior towards gambling.
