Monitoring and Control System Design for a Catalyst Manufacturing Unit
Abstract
In the Oil and Gas Industry there are a lot of processes that imply the use of control systems. One of these processes is the In Situ Upgrading of Bitumen and Heavy Oils via Nanocatalysis for which a pilot plant has been idealized and built. This thesis works through the process of the design, implementation, evaluation and testing of a system specifically purposed to control and monitor the aforementioned process’ plant also known as the Catalyst Skid. The outcome of this work have shown an intrinsic exponential delay response to throughput change; results which were consistent throughout simulation, analysis and testing. From this work several design philosophy trends, functionality test procedures and communication benchmarks for this control system were obtained as well, achievements that cannot only be used in the Oil and Gas Industry but also in any other industrial applications where remote control systems are needed.
