Abstract
Discusses the architectural theory of French architect-monk Dom Bellot (1876-1944). Includes a discussion of proportional systems, of Viollet-le-Duc, the Beuron School, and of Bellot's use of colour.
Description
In 1997, Claude Bergeron and I, with the assistance of Dom Jean Rochon, OSB, published L'Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-Lac et ses bâtisseurs (Québec: Presses de l'Université Laval). This chapter appreared in that book, but in French. It has never been available in English before now. Despite the numerous French quotations, which may be off-putting for those who do not read French, the majority of the article is in English.
